The beauty of the torpor-induced doze

Not much of a day, I suppose, so I used it to restart my journal (handwritten version, the one with all the things I daren’t say publicly in it, the stories of Raheny_Eye as a young student and so on). I’ve been quite slack since I got back from Portugal: not for any particular reason – there were a couple of weeks of sickness in there; the lethargy induced by not having any work and being in Ottawa in the winter; running around after Ottawacker Jr. – all the usual parenting things and family things that are incumbent on those not bringing in the daily bread. I still haven’t finished the Portugal trip blips – so will have to get my finger out.

This past weekend was exceptionally busy, what with Ottawacker Jr.’s tournament and then having to catch up on my sleep. He’s still on a high about having won both age categories—U14 and U13—and the memory of his running off the field at the end of the U14 final to play in the U13 semi-final that was about to start will live long in the memory. It was, according to his coach, quite the psychological blow to the opposition, because as he ran onto the field from behind the goal, there was a big cheer from all the players and many of the parents.

I am on a bit of a high too because I managed to actually get something done. Admittedly, it was only going down to Dynacare for a blood draw, but at my age, you take what you can get. I’m usually quite uptight if I manage to do nothing at all – but for once, I am quite relaxed about it. Can’t make my mind up whether that is a good thing or not. I might have to have a snooze and see how I feel when I wake up.

When I came back from Dynacare, there was the most magical light: the sun forcing its ways through the snow clouds. And that it the blip.
