Another early start to watch the football
This time, I had been determined to get enough sleep and so made it to be around 11pm. My mind, increasingly erratic, decided that I would wake up at 12.30am. Not just wake up – but be wide awake. I lay there, debating whether it would be worth the effort to go for a pee, decided I would do it, did it, came back, and somehow went straight back to sleep. Until 4am. And that was it. In the end, I picked up the Peter Crouch autobiography and read till 6.
Because, for the second day in a row, Ottawacker Jr. had a 7am start for his tournament. After the five games yesterday, he had the final group game for the U13s, followed almost immediately by the final of the U14s, followed immediately by the semi-final of the U13s, and then a two-hour wait before the final of the U13s. And what a day he had. As tentative as he had been yesterday, he was on top form today. This was most noticeable in the Final of the U14s, where they played against the Toronto FC Academy from Russell. Huge beasts they were, some over 6 foot, and very physical in that agricultural Russell way. He made a great stop in the first minute, diving down to his right to push a shot away for a corner – and this seemed to spur him on for the rest of the day. The U14s won their final 4-2 – but he had to sprint off to join the U13s semi-final, so couldn’t celebrate with his team.
The poor U13s had been waiting to kick off without a keeper – so when he sprinted onto the pitch, there was a huge cheer for him, which seemed to completely faze the OSU team. It was like the scene from Lord of the Rings when Gandalf turns up for the final battle. He must have felt good. He had another excellent game, and the U13s won the semi 5-1. Then came the two-hour wait before the closely contested final against Nepean, which the U13s won 3-1.
So, he won two tournaments in one day and is quite rightly feeling very pleased with himself.
7am - BU13 vs. BU13 Nepean Hotspurs White – won 7-1
8.35am – BU14 (Final) vs. Russell Raiders Academy U13/U14 – won 4-2
9.20am - BU13 (SF) vs. 2012 OSU Boy Silver Team – won 5-1
12.15pm - BU13 (Final) vs. Nepean Hotspurs Red – won 3-1
We made it back home where I watched the second-half of the Liverpool vs. West Ham match (5-0, but should have been 10-0), then made some lunch and started going through some photos I had taken from the final. Something is wrong with my camera – every image was either blurry or the faces were washed out. No idea what is going on – so will no doubt have to take it in for a service. If that sort of thing is still done…
