New year conker tree

It was a bit rubbish later on in the day, but when I took the dog for his walk in the morning it was very bright and cheery. Not exactly warm, but not freezing - so good weather for a dog walk.

In the afternoon I made a stand for my bike. I had a piece of aluminium L bar and some bits of wood. I've already made a stand for my wife's bike using the same design, so it was time to make mine. It's very simple really two rails for the wheel to sit in, and two rails for the front of the tyre to push up against - so the wheel is trapped at two points. The aluminium L goes at the back against the wall, and the wood makes a large L which traps the wheel. Mostly just a case of some pilot holes and screws - nothing really rocket science. It's not bolted to the wall or floor so we can move it around if we need. My wife got both the wood and aluminium from a skip - the builders were throwing it all away and she did ask if she could have it. All perfectly good materials and not cheap if you have to buy it yourself...

At least by reusing some wood, a tree somewhere won't have to be shopped down for us... The blip is a the conker tree at the start/end of my dog walk and as you can see it's fast asleep now we are in midwinter.
