The Solomen Juneau
Rainy & humid today! Went walking along the river, & took this shot of the tugboat...I loved it's cheerful red color. The tugboat is the "Solomen Juneau", & was built in 1947. It apparently sat pretty much unused until the current owner bought, renamed & refurbished it in 1980. (He named the boat after the founder of Milwaukee-- Solomen Juneau-- who was born in Canada in 1793, & came to the Milwaukee area in 1818 as an agent for the American Fur Company. His cousin, Joseph Juneau, founded the city of Juneau, Alaska--must have both been bit by the exploring bug! ) The owner calls this tugboat his "floating winnebago", using it to take friends cruising out on the lake or to fish. Mostly he keeps it docked where it's at, which is the historic 1843 dock in downtown Milwaukee.
