On This Day

Hazel Catkins

Corylus avellana

The hazel trees are producing their male flowers fast and furious now. I hope that the tiny bud, just at the top of my blip, might be the female flowers waiting to burst. I had the camera with me in case I saw any birds (I did) but the catkins needed the phone camera for a bit of a close up.

It's a lovely morning but cold. All five of us on our Tuesday zoom chat for the first time in ages. Good to get all the news. I had arranged to walk after the zoom with my neighbour but she has brewed up the nasty flu virus which is currently doing the rounds. She was better to stay at home and keep warm.

I walked to Lidl, bought a few essentials, saw the catkins and walked home. I'll be off to Glasgow soon to do the school pick up for my grandson. He was apparently a bit glum about going back to school yesterday but  happier this morning. I'll no doubt hear all about it.

Ten blipping years! I find that quite extraordinary. I'm delighted to have found and, with encouragement, joined Blipfoto. It's such an enjoyable part of every day. Thank you to everyone who looks at and comments on my journal. Thanks also to the team of volunteers keeping the site going and going safely. That work is very much appreciated. I feel fortunate to be able to glimpse the lives of people I'd never otherwise meet and to have met some lovely Blippers in real life.

At one point I'd wondered about stopping after 10 years of blipping but why would I do that. I intend to blip again tomorrow!
