Walking on water

It was a bitterly cold, crisp day with a beautifully blue sky. I made the most of it by walking up to the surgery this morning with a set of Smithers’ blood pressure readings, and then walking to Buckhurst Hill after lunch to have my hair cut. My activity app on my watch looked very impressive by the evening …

These photos were taken on my way to Buckhurst Hill. I was amused by the antics of the ducks and gulls on the partially iced-over pond. The gulls were sitting in a row on the ice, with the exception of one who was walking determinedly along the line as though heading for the end of the queue. The mallard in the bottom left had been standing on a frozen rock, then stepped on to the ice which promptly gave way under her and she found herself swimming!

I had arrived wrapped up well against the cold, and had to warn my hairdresser that I would definitely be putting back on my knitted hat with a furry brim over my newly blow-dried hair for the walk home, even if it would spoil her handiwork!
