Properly unwell (Day 3531)
After a very disturbed night, my throat infection was far far worse this morning. I got myself dressed and shuffled downstairs where I attempted to drink some water. It was absolutely impossible. I couldn't swallow and the water went down my windpipe making me choke and cough which was very painful.
I was soon joined by my beautiful wife and we decided it would be better for me to go to A&E than to try and get an appointment with the GP. I was dealt with reasonably quickly by the medical staff and they seemed to be taking things fairly seriously. They decided that they needed to take bloods so fitted me with a cannula.
I was given some steroids and then IV paracetamol, and was on a ward by the early afternoon. A couple of bags of IV saline were pumped into me, and I began to feel significantly better. I was poked and prodded by various medical staff and they discussed whether I may or may not have quinsy. They have decided it is not quinsy just a throat infection which has gone rogue and now seems to be responding to the antibiotics.
After a really awful dinner (extra) which was supposed to be some sort of pasta dish I realised that swallowing had become a great deal easier.
A visit a little later from HV was grand. She brought lots of chocolate and yoghurt and I confess to eating a lot of it and a rather short space of time. I am feeling a lot better, but know I am not very well. My unexpected choking after a to y sip of water this morning was as frightening as it was depressing. I hope to be allowed to go home tomorrow.
