To the Roslyn Packer Theatre, not my favourite, to see William Yang’s Milestone, a slideshow and spoken-word performance with live music composed by Elena Kats-Chernin, to mark his 80th birthday. Themes: his childhood in Far North Queensland, coming out as gay, coming out as Chinese, Sydney’s gay, theatre and arts scenes in the 70s and 80s, AIDS, family and death. Some bits I’d seen before in Sadness, but that was ages ago. More has happened, mostly to do with family and memory and homecoming. And he’s taken to writing text on some of his early photographs; it works.

Have a great weekend!
