Grouse
Saturday gave a chance for an extended walk out on the snowy moor. I headed up to the trig point (extra - bonus points for spotting Manningham Mills and Emley Moor mast) saying hello to the sheep along the way (extras), and then dropped down to Sconce to look at the waterfall, where I was joined by a Robin (extra - bonus points for finding the Robin!)
Walking on the moor was fine, so long as you were alert for ‘snow traps’ in the form of ditches and depressions, however the paths and tracks were iced solid, particularly later in the afternoon, and I did go over a couple of times.
I came across a group of Red Grouse (main image) near the reservoir, strutting about with their furry legs, before taking off when I strayed too close.
It looks like the freeze will last for the rest of the weekend, with a thaw starting early next week.
