Gobblers
Starlings In Winter by Mary Oliver
Chunky and noisy,
But with stars in their black feathers,
They spring from the telephone wire
And instantly
They are acrobats
In the freezing wind.
I filled the mealworm feeder satisfied it would be enjoyed by bluebirds and others stopping by this afternoon. Once inside I folded some laundry, then took a look outside to see who or what was around. What?!? I couldn’t believe my eyes, not a mealworm in sight! How could that be? • Hmmm, I don’t need to be Holmes or even Watson to solve this mystery. Starlings!! A swarm must have swooped in as soon as I walked through the door. No doubt gobbling and emptying that feeder in a few furious seconds! • Here’s a guilty one here, chasing all those worms with peanut butter suet. Never a dull moment here ;)) • Peace & Love on this Sunday
