My embarrassing moment

Friends are aware of our notorious habit of being late.  Therefore, my New Year resolution is to be on time.

So, when we receive an invitation for Sunday lunch with friends we arrive five minutes early.
M is all for going in and announcing our early arrival ( “ surprise surpise) but I urge him to contain his enthusiasm knowing our hostess will be going through last minute preparation. 

Two minutes after the allocated time he marches up the steps. The door is already open. 
Our hostess is standing there.

“You are a week too early!”.

Fortunately, we know them well enough for it all to be turned into a joke and we go instead to our favourite Italian restaurant.

Memo to self: keep a diary.
