Snowy walk on the bike trail
Saturday
Yesterday afternoon’s snow had continued into the night, and left us with about another three inches of fresh snow, but it developed into a beautiful winter day, still very cold, but blue skies and sunshine.
First thing after breakfast, we called my brother and sister in law, Peter and Judy. Peter is awaiting heart surgery to replace the aortic valve - a condition they’ve been monitoring for several years, but now decided it’s now time to do surgery. They’ve had a video call with the surgeon, who is a specialist in a minimal invasive method which results in a shorter hospital stay and recovery time, and felt quite reassured having talked with him, but obviously it’s still a big surgery. He’s also had a long detailed pre-op appointment, but is still awaiting the actual date. Due to this, and therefore not wanted to catch anything, they’re both staying close to home and not venturing out. Having talked with them, it was time to go out and shovel the driveway again!
In the afternoon, we bundled up and drove to Loveland and enjoyed a wonderful walk on the bike trail, beside the Little Miami River.
It was an early quick dinner of leftovers, before going out to our first Cincinnati symphony concert of the season, down at Music Hall in Cincinnati. The concert was amazing, Rachmaninov’s 3rd Piano Concerto, played by George Li, and Aaron Copland Symphony No. 3. The piano concerto pairs fiendishly difficult and fast passages, where the pianist’s hands are moving so fast up and down the keys, they almost become a blur, with more lyrical romantic melodies, both of which the pianist totally mastered. He received an immediate standing ovation. With the cold and recent snowfall, I was expecting it to be a bit of a thin crowd tonight, but I was wrong, it was obviously a very popular concert, and everyone had turned out , clad in their warm jackets and snow boots!
A fabulous day, with so much to be thankful for.
