Glorious sunrise over the rooftops
Sunday
What a wonderful way to get up this morning, to see this fabulous sunrise from our bedroom window! I could have stayed looking at it, develop further and then fade, but having taken a quick shot on my phone, it was time to get up and showered and ready for church - we’re supposed to be there for 8.30. It was a great service with a good message from David our senior pastor, though he never introduces himself in that way, saying only that he is one of the pastors. I got a surprise later in the service when we had communion, and Brian our associate pastor called for the servers to come forward, only initially no one did - I guess there was some confusion or misunderstanding. So Brian started coming down the aisle - I was sitting with the choir at the end of the second row - and he leaned into me and asked if I would go and help him serve communion - a first for me! I wondered at the time why David wasn’t helping serve it, but we noticed at the end of the service he didn’t stand to shake hands with people like he usually does, so we’re guessing he wasn’t feeling good and didn’t want to infect people. Service was followed by Bible study as usual, then in the afternoon we went walking at Fernald Preserve. A few weeks ago it would have been a great place for birding, as various waterfowl would have been hanging out on the ponds, but they’re all frozen over now, so they’ve had to move on to find some running water. However, we were treated to the sight of a Northern Harrier flying over a couple of times. I could only identify it with the help of a keen birder standing their with his long lens. It’s a winter visitor, so it was a new bird for me. Unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough or have a long enough lens to capture a photograph!
