Turf Fen Mill, Norfolk Broads
I left home shortly after 7am and had a surprisingly easy journey to Norfolk. I was expecting traffic but was lucky not to experience any. I gave myself plenty of time to get there so had time to stop at a motorway services and enjoy a cappuccino before continuing my journey. I don't like driving long distances, the most I will do is about 3.5 hours, which is why it is sometimes easier for me to fly to a location for photography rather than drive any great distance. This journey was just under 3.5 hours so it suited me just fine.
I have not been to the Norfolk Broads before. This is the eastern area of the county and the broads is characterised by waterways and pump mills. The broads are man made, caused by digging for peat in the 12th century and over time the sea levels rising and water filling the peat pits.
We met at 12 noon and was served coffee and cake from the hostess of the country inn where we are staying near Hickling. Then we set off to go photograph the area around Turf Fen mill. Today was a few degrees warmer and sunny, so we were fools into thinking it would be much warmer, but when we got to the mill it was breezy and it got colder as it neared sunset. There was not much of a sunset, the promising colour seemed to disappear and by the time we left just after 4pm I cold not feel my fingers nor my toes!
This is an image of the pump mill taken at about sunset, as you can see there is not much colour. I quickly edited this image but I will edit the rest of the images when I get home..
I won't have much time for commenting on journals as I will be busy with not much time to myself. I am only here for two nights so it is a short trip.
