Private Investigations

On the ward today my troubles were put into perspective.

Two gentlemen in serious medical trouble.

On the left, a young manual tradesman who has just had emergency bowel surgery, a stoma,  and dangerous chest infection. He thought he was going home today, ha!

On the right, a very elderly gentleman with chronic heart disease and possible sepsis, to add to his lungs flooded with bodily fluids and a gravelly  cough that reminds me of the sound of a cement mixer.

Both have been worked on nearly all day. The amount of resources going behind these curtains is shocking, but clearly necessary.

My angry neighbour has gone quiet. His surgery is booked for tomorrow morning and he seems a lot more thoughtful today. Although when he told his wife on the phone about the procedure he was overheard to say..' They are going to start cutting bits off me tomorrow, 'robbing bas****s'

I have been out of bed several times to go to the washroom, have a shave, and an assisted walk to the tuck shop, so things are looking up!

Being on a 'soft diet' I was declined a biscuit with my morning mug of tea, but the kind lady relented when I promised faithfully to dunk.
