singing in the rain

This week we welcome visitors from Hungary to Dunscore. Every year, three students (14-15 years old) and a teacher come to learn more about the life of Jane Haining, who went from our village to Hungary as a missionary and died in Auschwitz.
The visit begins with a tour of the places where Jane lived and went to school (Dumfries Academy) and to see her memorial and medal at Dunscore Church.
Yesterday evening there was a BBQ to welcome them all. After a gloriously sunny day, the weather turned to rain and Luke and I got very wet cycling there. The BBQ took place underneath some big gazebos so none of our fun was spoiled, but later on we moved into the house.
Somebody had brought a guitar and sang for us. Lidia, a Hungarian woman who is making a film about Jane Haining, videoed the whole evening. The rest of the guests look rather glum, but I assure you that's not what it felt like at the time!
