Collection
backblip
Today's trip out was either going to be to Houghton Mill in Huntingdon, with a walk along the river Ouse, or to the Shuttleworth Collection in Bedfordshire. As it had rained most of the morning and was still overcast we headed for the planes.
We'd never been here before (or, indeed, to Houghton Mill). Odd how you never go to tourist'y things on your doorstep.
I was pleasantly surprised. I mean I quite like machines and stuff but quite often seeing them 'in storage', rather than out doing what they do, can be a bit of an anticlimax. However, here there were eight hangers sensibly packed with a large number of working antique aeroplanes, and the odd car, traction engine, bike and motorbike.
All of them fly (no, not the cars...) and some of them looked only slightly more substantial than the average kite. Some of them were some very strange shapes.
The lighting in the hangars was good and I've a lot of sharp handheld photos to choose from. I liked this one because it conveyed the 'feel' of the place better than a shot of a single plane. I also quite liked it because it is straight out of the camera.

Finished of the day by dramatically losing another game of Puerto Rico.
Where's that eBay...
