Nature's light show
A massive set of storms came in this evening. I was looking out the kitchen window and saw some mammatus clouds and thought ''hello" something is brewing. So I drove down to Bar Beach and was watching this massive shelf cloud (panarama in the first extra) trying to work out which way it was coming and realised as it was getting closer and closer it was heading right for us. I have put a compilation of six shots in the second extra. There is two minutes and 20 seconds in time between the first and last shot which will give you and idea of how fast it was moving. It was like that scene in Independence day when the space ship slowly moves overhead. Very alien it was. So then it started to rain and there was wonderful lightning that streaked across the sky but you give up on shots once it starts raining. I drove around looking for a vantage point under cover for a while and settled on going back to Dixon park where I knew there was good cover near the life savers station. By that time it had stopped raining and I have never seen as much or as big streaks of lightning as I did tonight. The main was a shot at Dixon Park. It is a single shot, not focus stacked and whilst it doesn't show in the image there was this strange green light as the lightning struck. What a show!!! I hung around for a little while longer, you know what it is like when you know you have got the shot and you think 'well that's it, I can leave now', but you don't. And then it started raining again so I high tailed it home.
Thanks for hosting steveng.
