Boiler

Since A left before dawn to go rowing, I walked Django. It was beautifully sunny, and such a contrast from the snowy Penicuik I'd seen on my last trip out. Near the end of the walk, we passed St Mungo's churchyard, where work to stabilise the shell of the old church had restarted. The new pointing is already looking good, and it will maintain an attractive feature of the town.

Back home, I addressed a HiGHS issue, and then started writing my contribution to a report that will be sent to one of our funders. It's not fun, but has to be done...

I'd rung the central heating service first thing, and they said someone would probably come out today. A guy arrived at 16:30 and, after a discussion of the "symptoms", I left him to contemplate the boiler failure. His conclusion was that the pressure drops we'd been having were due to leaking within the boiler, not the house! He presented it as "bad news", as the boiler was beyond economic repair, but to me it was a relief, as I'd had visions of half the ground floor being ripped up to identify the source of the leak. There will be no heating or hot water until the new boiler can be fitted, but he suggested that it wouldn't be long.

A is out this evening, so I get to walk Django in the dark.
