Today I went into work for the first time since Christmas, taking a shower there since we have no hot water at home. My Year 3 student didn't turn up at 11:00, but I'd not reminded him.  I gave my introductory lecture at 12:00, and maybe I'm getting too removed from teaching when trying the enthuse the students, because the atmosphere was rather flat. I then had lunch with И before a couple of hours in the office, where we were joined by PhD students B and Y. There wasn't any chat, but it was good to have other people in the room.

Since A was meeting me at my mother's flat at 16:00, И took the opportunity to go with me to see whether there were any things she wanted to take for her flat. She left with a large shopping bag full of kitchenware. B came too, but he and his partner have just moved a lot of stuff from England, and nothing caught his eye. After they left, A had a shower, and we drove to Leith with several boxes of stuff that someone had said they wanted, after A had posted on MeadowShare about the items we were trying to get rid of. This does look to be a good route into people and charities that want clothes and other stuff. We've even got a home for the large collection of artificial flowers! Afterwards, we had food at a tiny, but excellent, Pilipino restaurant in Leith – that also served Japanese, Cantonese and Greek food. Run by a couple, the “front of house” was their adult son. With a very pleasing manner, he made and served us dragon roll, a Pilipino pork stew with rice, and some chicken gyozas.
