Building work on a frozen sea
We headed into town today to eat lunch at "Barbro's", a new retaurant in the hotel. The place had a nice friendly atmosphere and seemed fairly full of customers.
Outdoors things had warmed up and it was a good bit above freezing, though the sea remains covered in ice. There were puddles everywhere, the snow was very grubby and there was still plenty of wet ice on the ground so we had to tread carefully, even with spiked shoes on. This is all fairly horrible and a good reminder of why we prefer our winters to be cold!
We had a good view of the work on the new bridge, which seemed mainly to be digging up debris and mud from the bottom where the old bridge foundations had been demolished explosively. That digger in the picture has an extendable arm so it can reach down to the bottom and scoop up whatever it finds. We saw several lorry loads of black mud, bent reinforcing and concrete lumps being taken away.
A trip to the biggest charity shop was the follow up to lunch. I was feeling less than 100% so after a cursory look around I parked myself on a sofa and read my book. Jan found treasure of course, and then we met our good friend Anders, who also sat on the sofa. The three of us sat around a table chatting away as if we were at home, for half-an-hour or so, before we went our separate ways.
I spent the rest of the day mostly sitting in front of the TV at home - very unusual for me or Jan!
