Down the pub
Not many pubs that have an approach like this. The pub can just be glimpsed through the gates, on the left.
Lunch at the Gunton Arms with GracieG and M. W and I had not been there before but have often meant to visit, and we were not disappointed. It is situated on the Gunton Estate which is a private deer park, so Venison from the park features on the menu although none of us had it today. Their speciality is cooking meat in the Elk Room, a part of the restaurant, over an open fire which adds a bit of theatre to the service. I had a pork chop which can be difficult to get right, but it was cooked perfectly.
The pub is owned by Ivor Braka, an art dealer and collector, so a lot of his collection is hanging on the walls. Some interesting works although not all to my taste; we were sitting next to a large painting of two dinosaurs who were..... well; let's just say they both had big smiles on their faces. It can be seen in one of the restaurant photos on the website.
All in all, a very pleasant lunch with good food and company. We will be back, no doubt.
