1933 ghost

This is the remains of a bridge built after a major storm in 1933 that came unexpected and covered most of the island with water. Our grandparents property is the highest spot on the island and was spared flood and most destruction form stories I have been told.
In 1954 another major storm hit the island taking out that bridge. It was Hurricane Hazel. She took out the bridge connecting the island to the mainland seen in the background. It was a one lane wooden bridge with a place on top for cars to pass. I have heard it was a noisy bridge when driven over (wood) and most kids rode in the floor board of the vehicle so they would not see when they were going overboard. To my knowledge no one ever went over the side. Right after the loss of the bridge there was a boat tied to the shore to assist people coming and going and then I believe there was a small ferry used until the new bridge was complete in 1957. Anytime the NWW blows the old piles are exposed. I stand there on the shore on the island side and think of those days gone by when life seemed simpler. Was it really simpler or just different? Something I guess I will never know.
I hope the history here is correct. I took it from statements from old timers  and you know how they are...HA HA
