No Need For Second Thoughts Over Trash Or Treasure
The first half of today involved watching a YouTube video about ten photographers travelling to Andalusia in Spain, another small run and the seasonal pruning of our dear old apple tree.
It was then time to head into town and finally get started on our Christmas shopping after yesterday's abject failure. Of course we first had to galvanise our shopping antenna with a pint and a packet of crisps before splitting up to try and get presents for each other. We set a definite time limit and happily I was able to find four gifts for my brother pretty quickly before we met up again.
We still needed to get something for our sister which is when we remembered the wonderfully monikered Trash or Treasure which sits down a tiny alleyway just off one of the Maidstone''s main shopping streets. It's a two floored shop which stocks vintage and second hand goods, festival clothing, home styling, vinyl and some handmade items which you can see just some of in my image of its outdoor multifarious display - the open mouthed carved figures on the right hand side of my shot in particular made me smile. As one online reviewer of the shop aptly states "It's like you've jumped into a time machine".
As we approached the shopfront we'd seen some gloriously colourful tote bags depicting Frida Kahlo (you can actually see them in my shot), which we thought would make a great gift for our sister. Once inside the shop I had a lovely chat with the shopkeeper who explained that she had bought the material herself and then had them made into the bags. She was delighted that we had spotted them on the way in as they were currently her favourite items in the shop. We bought one (which is sure to feature in a future blip) and said that we would definitely be back soon. There is certainly no need for any second thoughts over Trash and Treasure - we love this gloriously eccentric little shop!
