Midgie Larvae
Aren't all baby animals cute? I think that these are midgie larvae, currently infesting a water butt in my garden in vast numbers. They hang from the surface tension except when scared by vibration, which makes them difficult to photograph. Luckily they seem to breath through their rear ends (a good trick if you can do it) so always return to the surface. They are tiny - about 3-4mm, so I used a 32mm extension tube attached to my Nikon D300s macro lens and took 9 shots, getting slightly closer each time to get a sharp focus stack.
