Parkrun

Today I got up early to take the bus to Cramond for my first Parkrun. Unfortunately I thought it started at 09:00, rather than 09:30, so I arrived rather too early. However, this gave me time to spot that low tide was 10:30, and suggest to И that we do the walk to Cramond Island that we'd discussed in recent weeks - since she and A live nearby.

The run itself went very well, given that I've not run since the 5km I did in Klaksvík back in April. I kept a reasonably steady pace, and managed 24:32, just a few seconds faster than when I ran it alone 12 months ago. I was impressed that 661 people took part, all handled by a dozen volunteers!

Afterwards, I had a coffee and muffin at the Boardwalk café, where I was joined by И and A. It's only a kilometre across the causeway, to the island. It's just 500m long, but pleasantly undulating and wooded, with a few graffiti decorated WW2 emplacements.

Afterwards we went back to their flat, where we ordered Japanese food and had a good chat over a few beers. Then, thanks to a Penicuik bus not coming, it took me a long time to get home. On the way I received an email from someone agreeing to work for HiGHS, so I immediately started the process of firming up the complex admin that will be required to get him paid.

Once home, it was a relatively quick turnaround to get out with A, Django, and all the stuff we needed for an overnight stay and a walk tomorrow - except my boots. I realised on the journey, but decided I'd rather walk in my trainers than lose an hour going back. This was an unexpectedly good call, since we arrived at our small Perthshire hotel 15 minutes before last orders for dinner! And an excellent dinner it was, too!
