Impromptu Open Air Art Gallery

Portland is bursting with artists and craftspeople, and artists’ houses and apartments are bursting with their work. After a few years, wall space becomes scarce. Sales of locally-made art are even more scarce, and some artists are posting their work on utility poles, making urban walks one surprise after another. The work has to hold up to the weather, but it appears that some artists consider weather damage as part of the piece. It was cold but sunny this afternoon when Sue and I went for a stroll in her neighborhood. I spotted this crewel work, and a few blocks further on, Sue spotted a tiny poetry box with newly-minted “zines” featuring drawings, prose and poetry. Hers is here, complete with an example of the poetry in the Zine.
