Bad To The Bone

The 50th BATS pantomime is over, with two sold out performances today. And it was made even more special by a couple of visitors who came backstage during the interval of the matinee. Fellow blipper dunkyc has posted a photo of himself (our current Dame) with Brian who played the Dame in that very first pantomime. He never did another one after that, but we were all pleased to see he’s still with us.
My picture is of our current Ababazer (Ethan) with Oliver, who played the role in that first pantomime. Unlike Brian, he continued to perform with BATS for the next 30 years or so and, indeed, was also the Abanazer in my very first BATS pantomime. I enjoyed several more pantos performing alongside him - he was invariably the baddie - before he retired. Great to see he was also still with us and he seemed delighted to be back on the stage where he had been booed and applauded for so many years.
It is sobering to think that I have now done thirty pantomimes as well. Am I therefore ready to step away and gracefully retire?
Not on your life! Roll on next year…
