Black hellebore
Not a bad day today - quite a bit of sunshine so I decided to get outside this morning and do some gardening. I transplanted a few shrubs on the drive bed and moved my Chilean Firebush (Embothrium coccineum), which was about five feet tall, down to the end of the garden by the roadside as it was struggling to find space up on the bank. I should have done it a few years ago as it came up with very few roots and I had to cut it back. Grrr!
After lunch I trimmed back all the dead fronds from the ferns in my fern bed and raked all the debris along the path. I shall take them down to my leaf heap when my muscles let me!
My Blip today is of a Christmas Rose, (Helleborus niger) which I've had in a pot since I bought it back in 2017. I must find a spot in the garden for it. I can hardly believe that its other common name is Black Hellebore! Why 'black' when the flowers are white? Because the roots are black, of course! Silly me!
And I sat outside with a book for ten minutes!
