Happy Moments

Some bits are the same

I’ve mentioned before about the old Zetland Hotel at the end of Milton Street commanding a great position in the town looking out over towards Huntcliffe and the North Sea. However since JohnRH commented on one of the blips (maybe the train station blip) that the railway line used to run directly into the hotel, I’ve been curious as to what parts of the track or railway identifiers have been preserved and what has disappeared.

After chatting with Kev over the road and some online research, it seemed I could gain access via the car park and have a nosey. So that’s what I did today.

One of the websites I used for my research showed a lovely picture (slightly down the page if you look) of the hotel name etched or painted on the brickwork. It would almost certainly have been a ghost sign and very weathered by now, but I really wanted to find it.

Anyway, I’m pretty certain the building it was on has been levelled now and is actually the car park. There is one other person Kev has suggested I ask. But that is for another time.

Today, I’ve taken a selection of pictures of some the bits that are left.
