Snow
If you know me, you know that I love photographing birds/wildlife in the snow. It is challenging to get the exposure right, and that is part of why I enjoy it so much. But mostly it's because I just love the look of things against a snowy background. Having a compliant Tufted Titmouse made for a fun shot.
Knowing that it was going to start snowing by early afternoon, I ventured back into the woods behind our house this morning to search for some interesting perches. I found a big hunk of a tree that looked promising, so I hefted it back out of the woods and up the little hill to the "studio" where I set it up and baited it with some seeds. Winner. Then, I foraged for a few new branches and came back with those too. I have a small (4ft by 4ft) table that Hubs rigged up with some pvc pipe to hole branches. It is just the right height that if I am sitting in my hide, the birds are at eye level. I can easily move the table around to take advantage of light and/or backgrounds so it really works out very well.
Jax went on the first foraging trip with me, but declined on the second one - I think it was just a bit too cold for his liking. I have a new winter coat on order for him which should be delivered tomorrow which I hope will help.
Hubs brought some extra firewood into the garage ahead of the snow so we are will be toasty warm. This is the last of the 3 cords we had delivered this fall - I don't remember us ever going through this much wood so early in the season! Definitely been much colder than usual. Fortunately, we still have about 2 cords left from the prior winter so that may take us through until spring. We'll see.
While I've been channeling my inner wildlife photographer, Hubs has been busy working on the motor of the old Singer sewing machine. He's taken it apart and cleaned it and is now working on replacing the cord. I don't hear any cursing, so assume all is going well.
Tomorrow the next president will be sworn in and we will start what will probably be another 4 years of chaos. I plan to spend even more time photographing wildlife, dogs, cats and whatever else catches my eye. Speaking of cats, I am scheduled to do another shoot for the cat rescue this week - very much looking forward to it!
Cheers.
