Sgwarnog: In the Field

Education

In my many visits with #MayorMarsden I had noted this relief panel devoted to ‘Education’ below his statue. I filed it away as a potential resource at some point, and that time seems to have come, so I revisited it during my lunchtime walk for a fresh image.

‘Education’ as seen in 1870s Leeds. I will have my class decoding this in our next session.

The statue is by John Throp (1819-1889), a Leeds-based sculptor. I’m not sure if he also did the reliefs, but the Leeds Pevsner entry doesn’t say that he didn’t.
