The time is out of joint

I bought the hot cross buns eleven days ago out of astonishment and they've been in the freezer since then. I usually ignore 'best before' dates as I think manufacturers are overly cautious of being prosecuted and overly keen for us to chuck stuff away and buy more. Anyway, I'm confident in my ability to tell whether something is still OK to eat.
