Be afraid Jonty, be very afraid!

I didn't tell you but two days ago I was washing Jonty's head (they get a bit smelly around the head from sniffing things!) and I noticed he had something sticking in his eye. I thought it was hair but when I tried to smooth it out of his eye I found it was straight and it was actually sticking into his eye socket.
It was a grass seed, the same type as he is photographed with on this blip. I'm sure he got it down at the allotment as there's a lot there and we'd been to the allotment in the morning.
The seed was about 3 inches long and half of it was in his eye. We tried to pull it out gently but we were afraid of leaving some in and getting infected. Luckily it did not go into the eyeball, it was to the right side but deep into the flesh. The vet showed me it after he got it out and I was shocked at how much of it was bloodstained.
Yes, I had to take him to the vet. It took about 10 minutes for the examination, taking Jonty into the back to freeze the area, remove it and bring him back into the waiting area fit and well. 10 minutes and £72.50 poorer I took a happy dog back home :-)
