Cemetery

I went out to a local cemetery to take a picture of Eve...as in Adam and Eve. But, the statue of Eve in a reclining position was being overtaken by vegetation, and the lighting was bad. Eve will have to wait for another time.

The large gray gravestone caught my eye. SLEEP. How appropriate for a graveyard. Sleep...as in rest...as in the final rest. I parked my truck to walk around.

It's odd to visit a local cemetery after delivering the mail here for 36 years. You see the name on the headstone, and an address pops in your head. Customer after customer I see...address after address.

Then...more memories. An old football coach, and friend. A fine man, even if he did root for Ohio State.

The parents of a close high school friend. Sweethearts Forever, the stone read.

A marker for a guy I was playing volleyball with one night. He had a heart attack, and keeled over. He was gone before the ambulance arrived. Shocking to witness. Another nice fellow.

A headstone for the couple two doors down from us. He is gone...she's still with us. Her husband is waiting...time will tell.

The last time we were out East, we stopped at a granite quarry in Graniteville, Vermont called The Rock of Ages. A huge quarry with layer after layer of the hard rock. You could also go into the factory, and see how the massive stones were engraved. A lot of is now done with graphics, computers, and robots. Still, very interesting. Also...in the nearby city of Barre, Vermont...a place called Hope Cemetery that has unbelievable headstones and granite statuary.

The small pictures today came from the surrounding headstones. Thanks to Mr./Mrs. Sleep for the backdrop.
