First winemaker

Headed home this morning. Easy flight with no delays. This statue is just outside the terminal building at Blenheim airport. The text on the side reads:

Pioneer David Herd established Marlborough's first winery at Auntsfield in the hills to the south during the 1870's. He made highly regarded wine for many years.

Those first vines bore fine fruit and today Marlborough is New Zealand's greatest wine region.
