A Swashbuckling Day!

My friends and I set sail for West Yarmouth on Cape Cod to see the museum of the wreck of the pirate ship Whydah, captained by the great Sam Bellamy.  It was discovered in 1984 by explorer Barry Clifford.  It is the only fully intact pirate treasure ever found worth over 400 million dollars in todays money.  The map was drawn by Captain Cyprian Southack in 1717 the year of the wreck.  Betsey posed with a pirate outside the museum (no photos allowed inside) and, of course Henry had to get into the picture holding a wee pirate flag.  (He’s already decided he wants to be a pirate for Halloween.) They continue to salvage artifacts and treasure from the site and we were able to see the lab where conservation of the artifacts is taking place.  Fascinating and beautifully done exhibits.  Here’s a link to more of the story of Bellamy and the Whydah.  Yo, ho, ho and a bottle of rum!
