Back to St Pancras

I had time to kill before getting my train back to Shrewsbury, so headed back to St Pancras. It is such a stunning station. Did you know why all the Iron girders are painted pale blue? An elderly gentleman, who has been using this station for the past 60 years, told me that it was because it was Queen Victoria's favourite colour.

On the wall is listed all the professions that were needed to run both the station, and the hotel. Incredible!

Milk and fish porter, Axlebox cleaner, Conductor, Greaser, Numbertaker, Horse driver, Carman, Farrier, Meat pitcher, Plateman, Gas Fitter, Examiner, Stoker, Junior Chainhorse Youth, Scotcher, Labourer, Under- shunter, Cloakroom porter, Cook, Page, Head - shunter, Fitter's assistant, Junior machine youth, Coal porter, Canvasser's clerk, Incandescent Burner Attendant, Pointholder, Barman, Capstan youth and Delivery sheet registrar.
