I met my theatre buddies this afternoon for Bull by Mike Bartlett at the Old Fire Station. It's an hour of unremitting bullying of one person by two others. Very uncomfortable to experience. There was no commentary or revelation within the play - just watch, listen and take away. As we did, generating a conversation about our own experiences of bullying (none as bad as those in the play) and why humans seem hard-wired to do it.
I mentioned a comment I made to a friend about a week ago, that I believe most human beings to be kind if you look beneath the hurt and damage they have experienced, (my second paragraph here) and that she had told me I was hopelessly optimistic, naive, deluded...
