A plea unheard
A slow start to the Auckland Anniversary Day holiday. These holidays (there is a different day for each province. The provinces became irrelevant for all else some decades ago. I do remember watching a rugby match in Paeroa between the provinces of Thames Valley and Otago. The Thames Valley province went from the Coromandel Peninsula to a little south of Waihi. While there was a small stand, most of those watching, including us, stood around the edges of the ground.
We were visited by C and her sons (young men now) for the afternoon, which included lunch. I felt pleased with my timing of the cooking on the BBQ, all being ready at the same time. The grandsons enjoyed their meat and mushrooms. Then a time of resting and talking.
After they left I went for a walk on the lower pipeline with my camera. There were few birds to hear and even fewer to see. Perhaps the intermittent very strong gusts deterred activity. Just before we started our lunch I had put up the big shade umbrella as the direct sun was uncomfortably hot. Not long after I put it up a very strong gust of lifted it off the deck. I managed to catch it and had enough time to get one of the squares of concrete to hold it thereafter.
One human who had preceded me on the lower pipeline either can't read or missed seeing two simple words on the can so carefully placed on top of the fence. Alternatively, their mother still picks up after them.
