Signs
Aucklanders have become accustomed to detours as work to repair the damage inflicted on and around Auckland Anniversary day two years ago. And once again we have been subjected to wet and windy weather for the holiday weekend. No reports of further damage to homes or roads.
The current Government (led in effect by the leader of the ACT party, which gained just 8% of the party vote) is more interested in building motorways to allow drivers to drive faster and take a few minutes off a trip that most people will not be taking, than in making damaged roads safe.
Snippets of analysis of the effects of Government policies in the first year is that almost every measure is worse than before their grand and basically undemocratic rush to overturn previous legislation. Seymour is ignoring the fact that unprecedented numbers of ordinary citizens submitted against his proposals to eviscerate the Treaty of Waitangi (our founding contract between Maori Tangata Whenua and (mainly British) colonists) and removing regulations.
The claim is that development is being strangled by regulations (which have assisted in the implementation of legislation). Again many people submitted that allowing free for all (meaning wealthy foreign corporations and individuals) uncontrolled access to our resources is wrong. Again there was a multitude of submissions against this Bill proceeding.
What is happening here, the USA and elsewhere is similar to the changes that occurred almost world wide in the 1930s. But this time the mega wealthy have emerged to sing the praises of leaders like Trump.
I wish there were signs around the motu (the nation) saying things like STOP FASCISM.
