Red Red Rose

I had had a thought last night that I would get up early and go for a walk before we were officially in the red zone of the impending storm. When I woke up I could hear the wind, and reckoned it was pretty strong already, so although the red warning only ran from 10am to 5pm, I decided I wouldn’t be venturing out. It was also raining/sleeting, another reason not to go out. As it was I only went out once today, and only very briefly to the garden to cut some thyme.

I spent the day cooking, baking, prepping for more baking, which I couldn’t do as I didn’t have enough flour, I did quite a bit of housework, and watched the weather. It was very windy. Sometimes it was very dark, sometimes the sun was out. TT was working from home today, as the University was closed. We watched a new lamp post(installed a couple of weeks ago) blowing in the wind. It is now at an interesting angle, but still functioning. I checked in with my folks, and they had buttoned down the hatches, and were prepared for all eventualities, with candles and flasks of hot water ready in case their power went off- it didn’t.

We have been lucky, as we are not aware of any real damage. However the pilot light in our boiler went out, and TT took some time to get in lit again. Once he had succeeded he couldn’t get the boiler to fire up, he tried a few times during the day, but no luck, so we have had no heating. Thank goodness for my heated blanket. He tried again one final time before going to bed, and it worked. Hurrah!

It has felt like a covid day, as we were advised not to go out. I’ve quite enjoyed being confined to the house, but I’ll be glad to get out tomorrow.

An emergency blip of a red rose from a bunch of cheap supermarket flowers. Another nod to Robert Burns!
