Monday: Shokuhin Sampuru
Since a visit to Kyoto some years ago we have been quite taken with the art of Japanese food modelling, known as Shokuhin Sampuru, so today we went to see an exhibition on just that at Japan House on High Street Kensington. The art originated in the early 20th Century when restaurants wanted to find a way to present food, particularly foreign, to customers so they would have an idea of what they could order. It’s absolutely fascinating (I’ve added a few extras).
On another note, being Japan House, the toilets were fabulous. They even had heated toilet seats!
Prior to that, we were in Chinatown for some lovely dim sum.
