Three Chairs

It has been a miserably cold day today...never made it out of the forties. I must address the question of the heat pump. We turn it off at night and when it is freezing in the morning, it takes it awhile to come up to temperature. I know there's a way to get it to turn on automatically before we get up (which might make it easier TO get up), I just have to reset it.

I never got off the waiting list for Pilates today and John's virtual 'wellness check' wasn't today as I thought, but next week. He cancelled it anyway, but I don't think he'll get out of it that easily. Even though they're a total waste of time, Medicare demands it. At any rate, we found ourselves with free day and wound up wondering what we did all day.

Our neighbor came by; the one who leaves little bags of home baked goodies on our front porch. John was doing something in the garage so he caught her in the act and brought her inside for a coffee. It turns out that this was a special Chinese New Year batch. She is a lovely person, if a bit enigmatic,  and we enjoyed a nice conversation about the weather, the neighbors, and her daughter who just graduated from the University of Washington.

I was sitting on the couch after she left and thought the three chairs at our kitchen island might make an interesting photo for today's Wide Wednesday challenge of  'monochrome, an understated subject'. A bit of investigation revealed that while my eye could edit out all the clutter on the counter, the camera did not, so I wound up taking everything off the island and the counter behind it,  and oiling the butcher board top, something I've been meaning to do for months.

I had to put most of the things back, but did eliminate a few things and cleaned a few others. If it hadn't been for that little exercise, I think I would feel like I accomplished absolutely nothing today. Thanks to Steven G for hosting this month and for providing a little structure to an otherwise aimless day....
