Butter Butt

The Yellow-rumped warblers are in town! AKA 'Butterbutts' because of their bright yellow rump feathers. The little cutie in this photo is most likely an ''immature' female. There are two 'populations' of these tiny warblers. The YRWs we see here in North Central Florida are members of the 'Myrtle' group that breeds from the Eastern U.S. across Canada to Alaska. The other population are the "Audubons' which breed in the mountains of the western U.S. and into British Columbia. Butterbutts are insect-eaters and also enjoy berries during the winter. They are frequent visitors to our BarkButter feeders as well as the Bog.  m
