Crispy noodles

Back in the days of Friday night Vesta meals, I used to love the crispy noodles which Mum would chuck in the deep fat fryer (!) and they would transform from pieces of plastic into tasty crunchy pieces to scatter on my Chow Mein or Chop Suey.

Some years later, visiting Brother Bob when he was working in London, the two of us broke out a Vesta after the family had retired for the night.  It was like cardboard!  Obviously the expectations were heavily linked to childhood and those Friday Family Evenings when Mum was saved from cooking.  Whilst looking back, Saturdays also remain in the memory.  Bob and I would be sent to the sweet shop for a quarter of Riley's milk chocolate toffee rolls and a quarter of plain chocolate toffee rolls; the pop van would come round the estate and we could choose a bottle each of our favourites before settling down to watch the evening television together (Dad would be checking his pools through Final Score).  Saturday Night at the London Palladium was the programme of choice in later evening.

The Hamamelis was a Christmas Present from Tony two Christmases ago and it reminds me of those crispy noodles of my childhood. Bonkers eh?
