Little France and Mary Queen of Scots

This is a view of Craigmillar Castle, probably Edinburgh,s least known castle. It is situated approx 3 miles out of the centre of Edinburgh to its south east and is a fine example of a Medieval castle that started life as a mansion house and was owned for most of its life by the Preston family.
It's main claim to fame however is that Mary Queen of Scot's stayed there twice in 1563 and 1566.
On the 7th of December 1566 within the castle walls the infamous "Craigmillar Bond" was hatched involving Mary and 3 others to kill her second husband Lord Darnley (father of James 1V of Scotland).
Mary sent for her husband who was in Glasgow and he attended at a house in Kirk o Field (of the High street) Edinburgh where a massive explosion brought the building down, Lord darnley and a servant,s bodies were both found in the orchard and it was obvious that they both had been strangled.
The area to the south-east of Edinburgh is known as Little France in celebration of Mary, as she had been brought up in France.
