NICE CHOPPERS!

The body of this cricket-like insect is less than one inch long, but check out his set of choppers! With a mandible like this, I can see how they nibble away at the edges of leaves. Chomp, chomp, chomp! It looks like they could inflict a good bite if I’d get too close, but I didn’t seem to bother this guy so I don’t think they’d bite humans. He climbed around on these geranium petals for a few minutes so I was able to take his picture from several angles. A couple of the other shots were more precise, with both his antennae showing clearly, etc., but this is the best one of his choppers so it had to be today’s blip. (I’ve searched the internet for the name of this insect but can’t find a match. It’s definitely of the cricket family.)
