Year of the Wood Snake

A third of my neighbors in this building are Chinese, and they make beautiful community with each other. They have walking groups and Mahjong groups; they play ping pong and pool; and they have Tai Chi, fitness, and dance classes every day. All activities are open to non-Chinese, but as all conversation is in Chinese, it's a bit daunting for those of us who are ignorant of the language(s). 

The Lunar New Year celebration is the culmination of a year's preparations. Today was the big day, and for the first time in the 16 years I've lived here, the residents were joined by a few adult grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was a delight.

Sadly I seem to have caught a cold or virus. Evan was to have spent the evening with me, but I warned him off, as he recently recovered from a cold himself.  I'm trying to fight it off because Sue and I have wonderful plans for this weekend. Fingers crossed I feel better tomorrow.
