Go On...Treat Yourself
If anything the weather was even more gruesome than yesterday and it was just so damp, cold and miserable that we didn't even set forth on our usual morning run. My God I can't wait for Spring!
So instead of setting off into the deep grey yonder we did some prep for tonight's dinner - my brother made a sausage, shallot, red pepper and lentil one pot and I did the 'hard yards' of cutting up some apples, strawberries, grapes and pineapple for that most difficult of culinary concoctions, a fruit salad.
Dinner prep completed we thought we should treat ourselves to lunch out (nobody else was going to) and so we headed back to the hilltop King's Head at Sutton Valence. We shared three small plates of pigs in blankets, venison croquettes (ooh posh!) and cajun chicken bites with a dipping sauce and mayo - which were all delicious.
Afterwards we had intended to continue our journey on to the nearby village of Headcorn for a short walk and the possibility of an image or two but roadworks intervened and we had to navigate the backroads which took us on a meandering tour of the Kent countryside until we finally saw a sign for Lenham and knew our route home from there.
We still had time to stop for some supplies - including a healthy option of jam and cream doughnuts, which we devoured watching another wonderful episode of New Lives In The Wild with Ben Fogle and the first episode of this year's Landscape Artist of The Year - after all as you can see from the remnants of the packaging we were only following instructions! :-)
